Australasian Pigeon Fanciers Gazette Spring 2004
Helmet  Update
from Gordon Jones

Firstly thank you to Frank Povah of the Pigeon Fanciers Gazette for allowing the Australian Helmet Club to post our Club news in this magazine. The Pigeon Fanciers Gazette has got to be one of the best pigeon publications around so I encourage all AHC members to support the Gazette with articles and photos from time to time.

2004 Australian National Pigeon Show
The 2004 Australian National Pigeon Show in Perth was a great success and the AHC thanks all organizers for a job well done. Numbers in the Helmet section were a little down with just over 60 birds shown, but quality was not missing, with a top line up of excellent birds in most colour classes. Congratulations to Phillip Bachner for winning Champion Plain Head Helmet and to Colin Campbell for winning Champion Crested Helmet. Special mention must be made of Col Campbells old black hen winning her third consecutive National Championship (2004 Perth Western Australia, 2003 Melbourne Victoria, 2002 Ipswich Queensland).  The overall power of this bird combined with one of the best crest on a Helmet that I have ever seen in this country should keep her on the top of the winners list for some time to come.

Nathan Seymour Award
Almond project colour. The AHC is promoting the introduction of a new colour (almond) in Helmets we have several fanciers working on creating an almond
Helmet, Colin Campbell NSW, Gordon Jones in QLD, Alan Hill in VIC, Anthony Ferguson in SA, Colin Seymour in NSW. Colin Campbell has also let some almond project birds to a number of fanciers in most states. The AHC with be approaching ANPA to have almond classes in both crested and plain head added to next years National show in Adelaide. Alan Hill has donated $10 to go to this award and Colin Campbell has sold some almond project birds and donated the proceeds to this award which at this time stands at $130.

Website Upgrade
I shall be upgrading the clubs website ( homestead.com/austhelmets/ahc.html ) with a new look over the next month or so. I am in desperate need of new articles, show results and photos. Also I will be adding a Birds for Sale page, if you have some spare birds and would like them advertised on the internet just send me an email helmetsaustralia @yahoo.com.au. I thank everyone for your support and wish all a successful breeding season.
